Complexity-driven layout exploration for aircraft structures

Abstract Topology optimization has been identified as a powerful tool to improve aircraft structures for many years. Yet, innovative layouts have not successfully implemented in commercial several reasons. One reason by our research group is the lack of design constraints during topology optimization, such buckling stability, which yields complex solutions that are easily manufacturable. Second, complexity resulting makes integration with other systems highly challenging. With respect these challenges, we propose new heuristic layout process: complexity-driven exploration (CD-LEAS). The process addresses challenges and nonlinear constraints, buckling, structure optimization. novelty CD-LEAS comes from relative metric driver navigate space efficiently. Two case studies commonly used stiffened panels carried out showcase performance process. results show using an explicit allows quickly output family simple, light, stiff buckling-resistant layouts.
